Here is some useful info that I found searching today about essential oils that would help with respiratory problems . We Smithy's seem to be suffering from allergy related problems and I thought I'd try a few of these this evening.
-Kressant

Bergamot (Citrus bergamia)
Mouth, throat and tonsil infections
Eucalyptus Oil (blue gum Eucalyptus globulous)
Anti-viral anti-septic. Warms, opens and clears respiratory airways. Also assists the immune system. Diffuse for cough, bronchitis, sinusitis and throat infections.

Ginger ( Zingiber officinale)
Analgesic, antioxidant, antispasmodic, antitussive, bactericidal.
congestion, sore throat and sinusitis. Can also be used topically for muscular aches and pains.

Lavender (angustifolia or officinalis)
Lavender has many uses and properties. For respiratory ailments it targets bronchitis, laryngitis, asthma and throat as well as whooping cough. It adds a sweet touch to your blend and also helps with associated headaches. Lavandin (Lavandula intermedia) has a top note of fresh camphor and may be better suited for respiratory ailments.

Peppermint
Headache, cough, stomach upset and sinus congestion.

Peru Balsam (Myroxylon balsamum)
Anti-inflammatory, balsamic, expectorant, antiseptic. Assists in decreasing mucus for asthma, bronchitis and coughs.

Tea Tree Oil
Anti bacterial, anti fungal and anti viral. Also a powerful immunostimulant. Diffuse for bronchitis, cough, whooping cough and sinusitis.
As a sufferer of sinus problems each winter season, I like to use this blend in a diffuser at the very first sign of symptoms. It not only clears the nasal passages but is also uplifting, pleasant and helps with headaches associated with sinus problems.

Anti Viral Oils I have a reader that sent me an e-mail last year after I distributed The Essential Oils for the Flu Season E-mailshe has been a Respiratory Therapist for 20 years and this is what she recommends.Lemon 10 dropsCinnamon Leaf 6-8 dropsEucalyptus 3-4 dropsRosemary 4 dropsClove 3-4 dropsTo use as a gargle mix with 1/2-cup thyme or sage herb tea As a room spray combine with 4oz of distilled waterYou can also add the Essential Oils to a Nebulizer diffuser and diffuse into your home

Vapor Balm For lung congestion a salve or a massage oil containing essential oils can be rubbed over the chest, back and throat. The oils will be absorbed through the skin and lungs as the vapor is inhaled. Place a flannel fabric on the chest after rubbing in the oil to increase warmth.
3 teaspoons peppermint oil3 teaspoons eucalyptus oil1-teaspoon thyme oil 1 cup olive oilWarm olive oil over very low heat. Cool a bit, add essential oils, and stir. (Be sure to keep your face away from the oils as you stir them in.) Allow hardening. Store at room temperature.
