Recipe from my loving Aunt D!

Hi Kress,
Cut up all your apples in small pieces and put into your crock pot. You can fill it to the top b/c it will cook down and you will be suprised how many apples will go into it. Actually I have a slow cooker rather than the old crock pot. Anyway, add just a bit of apple juice or cider (about 1 cup and only if you have it) otherwise, water. Then add whatever spices you think you would enjoy, like cinamon, allspice, nutmeg and of course a touch of sugar (like about 1 1/2 cup sugar to 2 cups. You can add more sugar later if you want. Stir it once an hour or so and about 6 hours later its ready. The apples will cook down and also become mushy and you can leave it like that and can for applesauce or put it thru the food processor (or blender) and make it slightly smooth for smoother applesauce or blend it well for applebutter. For applebutter I would probably add a touch more sugar so it will jell. Put it back into a pot on the stove and bring it back to a low simmer and have your jars ready. Your mom can fill in the rest. You can get on Google and say "apple butter" or "applesauce" and a million recipes will come up and all of them are just what someone likes to do. Matter of fact, to make it be a nicer color than my recipe which the apples were greenish so it came up a real not so appetizing color, you can add red hot candy which would color it reddish. Alot of recipes call for that. Hope this helps. Love, Aunt Dianna
