Le bon fire

After our dinner we asked the bigger guy's if they would not mind starting us a fire. They were most obliging and before we could make a pot of fresh coffee, the whole backyard was a burst of bright flames! We had a rather large fire but it finally burned down to the point that we could gather around to 'toast' our marshmallows ( several were caught on fire and could be seen flung in the air in quite an amusing display of agility and dismay) After we were 'warmed' from our campside snack, we girls decided to promenade around the yard. This was indeed a great idea if we could have but only seen where we were dancing as the guy's had been so thoughtful in turning out the lights (for the camping effect of the stars and the hiding of our house) We also dodged the dirt bike which the guy's were riding without headlights. LOL. After swirling around in circles we gathered around Miss Katie with our hymnals and I turned on the Japanese lantterns in the barn that we use for dancing. The guy's then assembled with their instruments with the exception of Michael, and we girls sang until the adults returned. We then tripped up to the house and waved the Morton's farewell.

Friday

Friday afternoon found Bethy, Alan and I as the sole occupants of our house. The rest of our family were off on various errands and Daddy was of course at work. The day's activities were indeed such that might be called rather dullish, but throughout the day we ran around cleaning and singing with great merriment on account that our cousins, and dear friends the Morton's would be joining us! Our 3rd and 4th cousins from Louisiana along with our great aunt and uncle for dinner, and then the Morton's around 1ish for the night. Our cousins arrived just in time for supper where spent our time getting better acquainted. We see our cousins about once or twice a year and they are growing up so fast! After supper and a big pan of homemade brownies, Rachel and our cousin Kristen gathered around the piano taking turns at entertaining us with their wonderful talents. In the corner Bethy and our other two cousins were working hard at a chess match in which I think our cousins won as they take lessons and poor Bethy has no one here in the house in which to exercise this particular skill. LOL.
