Today has been such a lovely day with tempertures of a wonderful breezy 79! Oh! Lunch on the back porch was a must and we sat down to a lovely table set martha Stewart style by Bethany's artistic hands. The family was ever so gracious to try my first attempt at Fried Green Tomatoes, I was told by my friend Ivis and fiancee that they were a must in my culinary adventures. My dear sissy Kate wrote out the instructions and I tried my hand at it. Pretty good after you've eaten about 5. LOL. It must be a required taste. We also enjoyed not only the tomatoes but green beans and cucumbers from our garden! It's been a learning experience and joy with our first garden this year! Then this afternoon, I climbed up into the bujardilla (that's the barn loft in Spanish) fighting my way through cob webs and cats to capture the old canning pot. Having found it along with a few stray mason jars that had not been inlisted in the illuminary militia for my betrothal ceremony, I returned to the house armed and ready, or so I thought; for trying my hand at pickles! I printed out a few recipes and entered the kitchen. Upon close study I found that I did not have pickeling salt. What is that? I called up our friends the Sanders who had just made pickles yesterday to find that they were not familiar with this ingredient. So, hmm...what next; a lenghty wedding-to-do list sat upon the table calling me to finish a task so that I may have the pleasure of marking through a line with my pretty ink pen. LOL. Then a hankerin' for blackberry jam like Darthy (the queen of jelly making) came upon me and I gatherd the kiddies, and Bethany and we set off with pails, and a ladder. Our yard is fenced in to keep in the sheep and to keep ? out. (We still don't know if we have any predators. LOL.) so we normally use an old kiddie table to hop over the fence. It's not a large fence but as our legs are not quite as long as our brother Cleves we chose a ladder. Our findings were quite dissapointing and alas, our loot put together made about one quart full! Oh well, we mostly have large red scratches and bug bites to show for out struggles. Oh, for the first time snce my betrothal to michael Jr. I went into the woods and did not come across a snake!
