Saturday Night-Lake Charles
Saturday evening after driving all day, we arrived at our cousins home in Lake Charles, LA. All around their home were the remains of the devastation created by hurricane Katrina, Blue tarps, broken fences, piles of debris and trash ect. Our cousins welcomed us warmly and ushered us into their lovely home where an inviting Louisiana spread awaited us! We young'uns ate outside chatting and marveling at the foot ball field which nestled right up to our cousins backyard fence! What would it be like to live with a foot ball field right outside your back door! Oh dear me. After supper we girls cleaned up the kitchen and then sat down to a card game whilst the guy's enjoyed our cousins sportsmen collection (base cards Miss ivy! LOL) until we decided to take a walk. The air was filled with a rather strange and swampy smell as there was located just down the road a large swamp. We returned into the house exhausted from our days acivities (or lack therein) and fell into bed. Just as we girls were entering into sleepy land, Daddy's cellular rang. We heard "Why hello Michael!" we girls instantly sat up in strained our ears. To our great excitment, The Morton's would be joining us sometime around 5am!!!!! We didn't get much sleep and I awoke at 5:15 and ran to look out the door. I stood waiting knowing that I could not expect them to have arrived that early and headed into the kitchen for a sip of water. I climbed back into bed and layed my head down to Miss Ivy. It was not two minutes later when Daddy came out of his room and opened the front door. I jumped up and awakened the girls. We abandoned our beds and gave our room to Mr. Michael, Miss Jeanine and the girls. They collapsed the poor things and the guy's joined Charlie and Arthur in the boy's room. We girls camped out in the living room for one hour when it was then time to awaken. Our dear cousins went to the store and returned with a large bounty of groceries which we girls set about to cooking as fast as possible. About an hour later we were all enjoying warm doughnuts, biscuits, eggs, bacon, sausage, fruit, and coffee! We cleaned up then bid our sweet cousins farewell! For our traveling arrangments we girls all piled into our black truck (with Charlie as our driver and Mama and Miss Jeanine) and then guy's took over the Morton van!
