There were great difficulties during the final stage of labor. The baby had the umbilical cord wrapped around his neck. Once that was removed, he then got his shoulders stuck in the birth canal. Our expert midwife, moved quickly to get the baby through the difficulty, but the combined problems caused him to not be able to breathe. She worked swiftly and decisively, checking the babies heartbeat with the stethoscope, setting up the oxygen tank, suctioning the baby's nose and mouth, and vigorously applying the manual respirator. There was much prayer going up to the LORD as 3, 4, and then 5 minutes went by with no breathing. And then, God had mercy on us all, and the baby began to sing out with a lusty cry! We owe gratitude both to the LORD for his favor, and to His blessing of a midwife with her expert CPR service.

Congratulations! Please tell Katie that we were praying for her, and that we're so glad things ended up well. That is one adorable newborn boy! He's so chubby and beautiful! I'm sure you all must be relieved, ecstatic, thankful, and severely excited! : )
Congratulations, again ... and again ... and again ... and again!

Whew! Those umbilical cords always make me a bit nervous, I must confess. :S
Praise the Lord for His protective hand upon little Bret and for a skilled, capable midwife!
